RECAP: Team Rosie on the Water for Elephants Red Carpet

Team Rosie was honored to be invited to the Red Carpet World Premiere of Water for Elephants at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City on April 17, 2011. The night before, hundreds of fans camped out in the freezing rain for a premium viewing spot to watch the stars arrive to walk the red carpet.

We had never seen a New York City red carpet event. The city that never sleeps also never closes any streets for movie premieres! Trucks, taxis, limos and pedestrians all fought their way down West 54rd Street in the middle of what was to be the world premiere event of Water for Elephants!

We arrived at the appointed press check in time, full of nerves and not quite believing this was all happening. It became very real when we spotted our assigned spot on the red carpet marked out with Team Rosie! WOOT! We hadn’t dreamed it all up!

It was wild to see all the action behind the scenes, all the hard work and set up to get to the final product we watch on TV. It was OVERLY crowded – imagine trying to shove Rosie the elephant into a Hyundai and you’ll get the idea. People, equipment and more people rushing around, chaos, booms, 1970s gigantic film equipment with Tai-normous tripod overstepping into our limited foot space (looking at you Twimoms!) – it was crazy! We took a walk to see the “real” news outlets setting up and squeed a little when we spied MTV’s Joshua Horowitz prepping for his interviews! It was somewhat reassuring to see he looked a little nervous too.

Then the arrivals started! Excited screams and shrieks across the street could mean only one thing: Robert Pattinson had arrived! He was first on scene to greet all the fans who had waited overnight in the rain. The noise died back and it was wonderful to see the respect shown to Rob as everyone waited for their moment with him. All class that man is. Meanwhile, Rob’s beautiful sisters, Lizzie and Victoria, and Ma and Pa Pattinson were posing for photos and chatting us up.

The Kinkers interviewed Donna Scott (Barbara), Jim Norton (Camel), Mark Povinelli (Kinko/Walter) and Ken Foree (Earl). Then, from across the street, another deafening scream!!! Reese Witherspoon had arrived and looked spectacular! She got bigger cheers that Robert Pattinson!! Oh and make sure you watch our video for tassel-twirling lessons from Donna Scott!

The red carpet was a Water for Elephants reunion and we caught some touching moments. Hal Holbrook and Francis Lawrence. Sara Gruen with her beautiful family. Reese Witherspoon and Dean, Robert Pattinson’s bodyguard, and Christoph Waltz waltzing right past us without stopping. 😉

Here’s a few of our favorite moments that we captured on camera:

Check out our full red carpet experience and the questions we asked the stars!

Oh did we forget someone? 😉 Rob had been first to arrive and was the last to make his way through the press. He stopped by the “blogger press” and answered a question or two. He was being rushed along when one of the Kinkers pointed out to his manager, Nick, that we were TEAM ROSIE!!!! One question please?!?

Nick delivered. (Deb note: Have I mentioned I love Nick? I love Nick!) There he was, Robert Pattinson, ready to answer one question, the last question on the red carpet and it was Team Rosie. What did we ask? Watch the video. (Note from Jen: Deb blacked out when Rob approached and she pressed “stop” instead of “start” on our video camera so thank you to our friends at Twilightish for not blacking out and for catching Tink’s question on camera.)

Somehow we were able to pull it together and have some great, one of a kind video of the very last photo session for Rob and Reese before everyone went into the theatre! (Deb shot this one on her iPhone.)

After the red carpet, we were invited in to watch the movie with the cast and crew! And it’s amazing! Can’t wait to share our review with you guys.

We had a 4th press pass for the photographer’s pen, so our friend Michael Hope at ChristophWaltzFans.com was kind enough to endure the aggressive paparazzi to get us these exclusive photos! Thanks Michael!

Thank you so much to Fox for the invite and everyone involved with Water for Elephants who chatted with us, posed for pics and made the red carpet spectacular!

What an amazing experience and you kinkers did a fantastic job from the moment this site went live.
Thank you so much for setting up the fan party even though I didn’t get to enjoy it (damn line forming).
LMAO about Deb hitting stop on the camera..who can blame her..Rob is dazzling!

You guys did a great job! It was a pleasure to meet with you.

We watched this from across the street and it looked like compelte chaos from the glimpses we could see between the movie posters and the cabs, trucks, and double-decker buses, etc.

When we called his name, Hal Holbrook did wave to us on the other side of the street and received cheers.

Ken Foree got out of a limo right in front of us, so we got to see him for a second before he disappeared into the press mayhem. It’s incredible that he made the connection that you guys were the ones that hosted the cocktail party. Too bad he missed it, he sounds like he would have been a lot of fun. As a veteran actor I’m sure he’s got lots of stories to tell.

I would have much rather spent more time at the cocktail party and less time in the cold, wet, rain. Next time, it should be stated – no one can live before x time. That would have worked out so much better for all of us.

It’s great that you guys got to actually attend the premiere. After all of your hard work, you deserve it. I appreciate all of your hard work. Thank you!

  5. Ripley says:

Ladies, you did a great job. I can only imagine how excited you were. Loved all the video and pics. I’m off now to see the movie.

  6. RobPattzBoo says:

I couldn’t be happier for you ladies! To go from a blog about our favorite actor, to NYC cocktails with celebs and rubbing elbows on the red carpet. And then to end it all with actually movie passes WOW! What a great cinderella story!

Note to Kinker Tink – Did you dazzle the pretty?!!! He had a little smile when he approached and spoke to you. I don’t recall him doing that with any other person. hee hee I know you were so high you never wanted to come down.
